What to Expect From the New Anova Precision™ Oven 2.0

Updated

Here at Anova, we’re constantly thinking about ways to make our tools better. We’ve made huge improvements to our flagship Anova Precision® Cooker over the years, while also iterating on it based on our customers’ needs (hello, Mini!).

With all of your feedback in mind, we recently launched the latest version of the Anova Precision™ Oven. The new and improved Precision™ Oven 2.0 has lots of leveled-up features, but most importantly, they were made with you in mind.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Developing the Anova Precision™ Oven 2.0
We started exploring the idea of a new Anova Precision™ Oven 2.0 in 2021. Before any pieces were reconfigured and software enhanced, the first step was to gather all the feedback we had received from Precision™ Oven users. A few trends emerged, like users creating their own exhaust setups to deal with excess steam, lighting that produced unnecessary additional heat, and opening doors to remove unwanted moisture.

What to Expect From the New Anova Precision™ Oven 2.0
Some parts of the Precision™ Oven 2.0 are visibly different from the original, while other new and improved functions will only be noticeable once you start the oven. Here’s what to expect:

New Features
• Added Exhaust System: The newly installed exhaust system mixes fresh air into the oven to more efficiently remove moisture from inside the cavity. This makes browning and crisping more efficient. (The TLDR: Air frying works even better and so does transitioning from steam to dry modes.)
• Waste Water Tank: The descaling process also uses the new waste tank instead of dripping liquid into the oven cavity. It also helps capture excess moisture without getting it all over your kitchen counter.
• Camera: The camera unlocks a new suite of AI-powered features, like food recognition, conversion of packaged food directions, and more.
• LED Lighting: LED lighting around the door ensures visibility at every tray position. The bright lights make it easier to keep an eye on how your food is browning and doesn’t affect the oven temperature so you can keep it on at all times.
• Intuitive Control Interface: The new 5-inch touchscreen interface features expanded manual controls that allow for more shortcuts, pre-sets, and access to guides.

Improved Features
• Water Tank Enhancements: Fully integrated water tanks are protected from steam exposure and held in place by a click in-click out mechanism that makes it easy to refill when needed.
• Better Bottom Element Placement: Moving the bottom element inside the cavity significantly improves the heat-up times and allows the oven to reach its full temperature max of 482°F for better browning on the bottom of foods.
• Rotating Heating Elements: The ability to move the top and bottom heating elements makes it easier to clean all sides and get to hard-to-reach places.

Testing the New Anova Precision™ Oven 2.0
Before we released the new model to the public, we had to test it internally. Not only was there rigorous hardware and software testing during the development of the product, we also did diligent cook testing. Senior Editor Kate Itrich-Williams cooked (and cooked), making everything from sourdough boules and roasted duck to frozen french fries and hard-boiled eggs.

“I use my new Precision Oven 2.0 every day for work,” said Kate. “When I’m testing recipes and guides, I really appreciate the easier to use touch screen, the fact that I can always see what’s going on in the oven — thanks to the new LED lighting — and the higher-temp bottom heating element that ensures the foods that should be browned and crisp are, well browned and crisp. And when the work day is over? I really make use of the Air Fry cooking mode when cooking endless chicken nuggets for my two small kids.”

The camera and food recognition have also been a gamechanger. “I'm a seasoned cook who likes control, so I didn't think I'd like the AI features,” said Lovica Callisti. “However, the food recognition has been a game changer for our household. For me, it removes several steps and allows me to quickly get something started in the oven while focusing on other prep tasks. More than that, my husband loves being able to throw some bacon in the oven and press a button to get perfect results every time without any idea what settings to use.”

What #anovafoodnerds Are Saying
It’s not just our team who’s loving the new and improved Anova Precision™ Oven 2.0. Real-life Anova users have been just as impressed. “It is clear Anova was paying attention to user suggestions and issues. The OV2 is better in almost every way,” said one early user.

Hardware design features like the larger touchscreen and integrated water tanks have been a huge hit. “I absolutely LOVE the touch pad over the handle-sited controls. I was often bumping the handle and either waking up the oven or changing a setting,” commented another user. It’s also “easier to fill water and easier to descale,” noted another.

Anova Intelligence is another gamechanger. According to testers, “food recognition makes it easier for people who haven't already been using an Anova Precision™ Oven” and “the monitoring graphs are wonderful.”

What’s Next at Anova
With the Precision™ Oven 2.0 out in the real world, the Anova team will continue innovating to ensure that our #anovafoodnerds have access to the latest and greatest in smart home cooking.
