Introducing the Anova Precision Oven
We exist to help people cook like pros. Since our launch in 2013, we’ve envisioned a future where we’ll provide our #anovafoodnerd family with a kitchen that fulfills that promise. An Anova Kitchen is one where devices are affordable, accessible, precise, and connected in a meaningful way. For the past two years, we’ve been working on a product that moves us one step closer to that vision. We’re proud to introduce The Anova Precision Oven:
We’re Changing the Way People CookIn 2014, we launched the Anova Precision Cooker – the world’s first significant connected cooking product. We felt that it was important that the Precision Cooker be connected, but a lot of people were skeptical. So, we made connectivity an important company metric. We call this metric a “Cook Started” or a “Cloud Cook.” Cook Started means that someone sends time and temperature from our app to the device, either through a recipe, time and temp guide, or through manual input, instead of using the controls on the device. A Cook Started is a direct measure of the utility of connectivity and an important “Smart Kitchen” metric. Since our launch, we’ve had 1.5 million Cooks Started; 1.25 million of those cooks were started in the last 12 months and 450,000 in the last 90 days. We feel that these statistics make it undeniable that the smart kitchen is real and it’s here to stay.
It’s About PrecisionOne of the primary reasons for our success is our ability to deliver precision temperature control. We’re really good at it. Our #anovafoodnerds know that cooking is largely about how hot for how long. The better you can control how hot, the better and more consistent the results will be. But, outside of your Precision Cooker, the equipment you’ve got in your kitchen is likely terrible at controlling heat. The average oven, for example, fluctuates by about 50° during a cook. Your stovetop is even less precise. The history of the oven is interesting. Prior to WWII, ovens didn’t have temperature settings on their dials. They simply had three settings – low, medium, and high. Post WWII, there was demand for precision and new technology. So, marketing departments suggested putting temperature settings on oven dials. Medium became 350°, which is why so many recipes today require food to be cooked at 350°, as previously most recipes called for medium as the temperature setting. Post WWII oven dials changed, but the technology supporting the oven didn’t change. When cooking with an oven, you may set the temperature to 350° F to achieve an internal target temperature of 140° F. Whereas, with Anova, you set the Precision Cooker to the temperature you’d like your food to reach without worrying about heat fluctuating and overcooking. This is a huge departure from traditional cooking.
The Anova Precision Oven will Make Your Precision Cooker More PowerfulPrecision temperature control makes cooking infinitely more convenient. As we like to say, “run errands, run trails, and come back to the best meal ever.” I know that when I cook, I can never get different parts of a meal to finish at the same time. For example, last weekend I was cooking salmon with my Precision Cooker. I was also preparing vegetables and pasta. The pasta finished way before the salmon, leaving us with cold noodles by the time we ate. This was super frustrating and it happens to me all the time. The Precision Oven solves this problem. The Precision Oven will be a countertop device that connects with the Precision Cooker through the same app, making it easy to complete every aspect of your meal from start to finish. The Precision Oven works by holding food at a low and precise temperature. Because of this, we can coordinate the delivery of different parts of your meal at the same time and provide an experience that’s complementary to cooking with your Precision Cooker. Imagine cooking salmon with your Precision Cooker and roasted potatoes and brussels sprouts in your Precision Oven AND having them both delivered at the same time, perfectly done. That’s the promise we’re looking forward to fulfilling. We strongly believe the Precision Oven will make your Precision Cooker MORE valuable. But the Precision Oven will also be an extremely valuable device on its own. Here’s what it will do:
- Sous vide
- Steam cooking
- Searing plate
- Convection bake
- Communicate with your Precision Cooker
- Coordinated cooking cycles
